Enbridge Gas

A first-of-its-kind in North America, CEM is currently designing a combined heat and power (CHP) a system burning hydrogen in a 2G Energy engine. The hydrogen CHP will provide heat and power to Enbridge’s 120,000 sq. ft. facility, which is home to approximately 197 employees.

The CHP system is able to operate with a minimum blend of 25% hydrogen to 75% natural gas, and up to 100% pure hydrogen. The project’s aim is to run the system on 100% Enbridge Gas-supplied hydrogen within a year. The expected GHG reduction when the system is running on 100% hydrogen is about 133 tonnes of CO2e annually, or the equivalent of removing approximately 28 passenger vehicles from the road each year.

CEM Responsibilities

Projected to be completed in late 2023, CEM is currently wrapping up detailed design, with construction expected to begin late spring of 2023.

The 100 kW CHP system will operate with a minimum blend of 25% hydrogen to 75% natural gas, with the aim to run on 100% hydrogen within a year.
